Triple Nerd Score
April 30th, 2009We’re making a movie for the National School Scrabble Association. The action began last weekend at the National Championship in Providence, Rhode Island . See the winners in the last photo.

Most teams had a custom designed Scrabble themed shirts. This was my favorite.

Rachel puff painted her name around her hat in letter tiles. She didn’t take the hat off the entire tournament.

This team lost in the finals. They’re both geniuses. The boy on the right talks like Baby Stewey from Family Guy.

This is Joel Sherman, the second best scrabble player in the world.

This is Joe Edley, the best Scrabble player in the world.

This is Henry Joost, he has been to the School Scrabble Championship 3 times .

This is Bradley and his Dad/Coach. Bradley is 11 and nationally ranked among adult Scrabble players. He was upset in the semi-finals by the eventual winners.

Fun facts about Joey. He’s 14 and ranked even higher among adults than Bradley. He finished second the last two years and was heavily favored to win this year. He and his teammate lost in the semi-finals, but Joey took it really well. His uncle is David Schwimmer .

Armuchee Elementary School in Texas sent this team. We interviewed them all at the same time and asked them to spell their favorite Q words without U’s.

This is me, through Ed David’s camera.

And here are our champions. They’re going to be on Jimmy Kimmel soon to talk about life and Scrabble and having tons of money.

The young brilliant scrabbleists are an inspiration. They are not distracted by life. I want to: a) go to the scrabble championship b) ask several scrabbleologists to join us for dinner and c) ask them to please make a fort in the living room. Soon.
