Icarus in Debt

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Today we filmed David Fernandez’s new short dance piece “Icarus” starring Ask LaCour. The myth is updated and Icarus is in deep financial debt. He signs a deal with the devil (loan shark) and flies on wings of plastic credit. We got a little more crazy with the shooting–should make a great film. It’ll be done by the end of August…

Wade In The Water

In August 2006 I traveled to New Orleans for a week to work with two of my best friends, Gabe Nussbaum and Elizabeth Wood, on their documentary about a group of kids in the first school to re-open post Katrina. This weekend the film premiered and won the Audience Choice “New Orleans Rebirth” Award at the International Human Rights Film Festival! Jody and I went down to shoot a follow-up (and possible new ending) at the premiere.

Our visit conveniently coincided with the New Orleans Pirate Film Festival. Overheard conversation:

Local : Eat a d*ck, get out of our f*cking town!

Pirate: Shut your mouth.

“Passage For Two” is screening as part of the Jerome Robbins retrospective at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. Quite an honor to be among his Oscars, Tonys, and Marias. We also met another original cast member of Opus Jazz, Beryl Towbin. Click here to learn more about the exhibit, it’s worth checking out.
